Dear Readers,

Hope you had a great week. If not, I hope the coming week gets better. Today’s post is another feel-good art post that I hope inspires you and brings a smile to your face.

Art has always been a constant in my life.  To me, it is a therapy that helps overcome the worst kinds of stress. When I am not writing, I am experimenting with colours.

I am a self-taught artist which means I make a lot of mistakes. I learn and grow with each of my artworks, trying to better my craft. I strongly believe that self-knowledge is the greatest form of education. Don’t you agree?

Self-knowledge is the greatest form of education.

Here are a few of my paintings that I experimented with within the last year and a half. They are mementoes to the innumerable mistakes I have made in the wonderful journey I am on.

Serenity and Splendour

Picking up a brush after seven years and choosing to paint a landscape on a 20×16 canvas was a bold move according to my artist friends. I used oil paints from my old set, mixed colours that were not available, repainted some patches where things did not come out as expected the first time and did some dry-on-dry touch-ups at a later stage as well. This piece probably has everything that an expert would quote ‘should not be done’. But that’s the fun about learning and experimenting on your own.

Into the Golden Light

This one took me nearly 6 months to complete because I dropped the brush in frustration after day 2 and picked it up again only after 5 months. I worked on it very cautiously, letting every layer dry before repainting on it. The waves were the trickiest of all especially for a newbie like me.

I loved painting the sky!

Forest Floor

I don’t know if this can be called an ‘inspired-original’ but I can bet there is no exact replica of this piece. It is a one of a kind painting that I made using the dried and fallen leaves from my garden. There is coriander, sambrani, chilli, tomato and many other common plant leaves. How many of them can you identify?

The Howl

This one was the easiest of all. A quick painting that took less than 2 hours to complete. It was a joy to paint the waves with limited colours yet many shades. Painting on a black canvas is bliss!
